Joseph Gibson has been of counsel at Constantine Cannon since January, 2008. Mr. Gibson has wide experience in antitrust law, intellectual property law, criminal law, federal government relations, and complex litigation.

Just before coming to the firm, Mr. Gibson was the Chief Minority Counsel to the House Judiciary Committee. The Committee is one of the busiest in the Congress having jurisdiction over antitrust, intellectual property, bankruptcy, federal preemption of state taxes, and criminal law, among other things. In that capacity, Mr. Gibson served as the top adviser to the Committee's minority members and provided legal and political advice to the minority members on all aspects of the Committee's business.

Mr. Gibson previously served the Committee as its Chief Legislative Counsel and Parliamentarian and as its Chief Antitrust Counsel. He has also served as Chief of Staff in the personal office of Rep. Lamar Smith, currently the Ranking Member of the Committee. While working for the Committee, Mr. Gibson was involved in numerous major pieces of legislation including the Telecommunications Act of 1996, the Gramm-Leach-Bliley banking law, the Class Action Fairness Act, and the extension of the Internet tax moratorium.

Mr. Gibson also spent time at the Department of Justice where he worked as a Deputy Assistant Attorney General in the Office of Legislative Affairs and as an adviser to the Assistant Attorney General for the Antitrust Division.

Before beginning his government service, Mr. Gibson represented clients in complex civil litigation and white collar criminal cases. In that capacity, he argued appeals before the Second, Eleventh, and Federal Circuits as well as the D.C. Court of Appeals.

Mr. Gibson clerked for former Chief Judge R. Lanier Anderson, III, of the Eleventh Circuit. He earned his J.D. from Yale Law School in 1987. In 1983, he graduated magna cum laude with a B.A. in Political Science from Yale University.
