D.C. Court of Appeals Reaffirms Constantine Cannon Victory in Law Firm Partnership Dispute
The District of Columbia Court of Appeals has reaffirmed its ruling in favor of Constantine Cannon in the law firmís representation of partner Douglas Rosenthal against his former law firm.

The Court of Appeals denied the petition for rehearing filed by Mr. Rosenthalís former law firm, which asked the court to change its ruling affirming the jury's verdict that Mr. Rosenthal's old firm had breached its duty of good faith to Mr. Rosenthal by failing to fairly compensate him for outstanding results, including successfully representing families of terrorist victims in a groundbreaking lawsuit against Libya and his role in successfully representing Sun Microsystems in its antitrust litigation against Microsoft. The court disposed of the petition for rehearing with an amended decision that reaffirmed the jury verdict and Mr. Rosenthalís right to damages for the full two-year period of his last contract with his old firm. Retailers receive $1.1 billion in payments from landmark debit card lawsuit settlement

On December 8, 2009, Constantine Cannon announced the payment of approximately $1.1 billion to U.S. retailers as part of the final large scale distribution of settlements funds in the 2003 class action lawsuit against Visa and MasterCard over their signature debit cards. These disbursements, which accelerated payments that were originally to be made through 2012, will bring relief to retailers during a difficult holiday season. The checks were sent to over 630,000 merchants, the vast majority of which are small businesses. The checks were also sent to cash-strapped charities, schools and state governments.

Given the size of the distribution and its importance to retailers, the payments made big news around the world.
